As you may or may not know, I have started a series about building the perfect wardrobe of basics. The aim is to create a basic wardrobe which will stand the test of changing trends and prevent the trivial question of "what do I wear today?" being asked. You can catch up by reading the first post here where I discuss my staple tops and outerwear. Read more after the jump to see me discuss bottoms of the basic wardrobe.

For a good portion of my life, I was never really a skirt-wearer. The only times I ever wore a skirt was at school (as part of a school uniform) and during the days where I played competitive netball. It wasn't until the past year I have learned to enjoy wearing and styling skirts and dresses. I firmly believe that everyone should have a short, black skirt in their wardrobe. It is one of the most versatile pieces. Personally, I heavily detest the bodycon silhouette - I feel like it is too 'clingy' and leaves me feeling a bit too exposed. This preference also translates into the rest of my wardrobe as well. I know that some of you may also be wondering how a flashy, sequin skirt made it into a basic wardrobe. Well, the sequin skirt can truly be a hard working piece in your wardrobe if it is paired with the right things. It can be dressed up for a night out or a dinner - or it can be dressed down when it is paired with a breton striped top an a military vest. I have been trying to look for the perfect seqin skirt to no avail - the search must continue!

Like I said earlier, I was never really a skirt-wearer. Most of the time, you will find me in some sort of pant whether it is some denim or trousers. They are comfortable and can instantly make you look put together - especially when you are not feeling your best. Lately, I have been shopping for ankle trousers and it has been a small obsession of mine. Also, you cannot go past a good pair of jeans. I prefer black skinny jeans, not only is it slimming but also keeps me warm in the winter. Boyfriend jeans are also great if you're just running errands or grabbing a quick coffee.

A well-fitted pair of trousers or bottoms can definitely last you a lifetime and definitely a wadrobe must-have. With the fall coming up, it seems like a good excuse to buy more trousers and this defintely serves as a great starting point. Until then...

  1. Great post I'm going to pin it because I feel like I need to add more of these to my own wardrobe. Especially in the pants department.

  2. Thank you for this post! I really struggle when it comes to buying clothing, because I can't figure out which items are essential for building a wardrobe (but for some reason I excel when it comes to bags and accessories!).

Thank you for these posts and the ones soon to come. I will most certainly be checking out this feature!
