aspirational homes | artworks + decor

Continuing in the series of my photographs of aspirational homes, (you can see the other two posts here and here) we are focusing on the little things - artworks and decor. If you were to strip a home of any decor or pieces of art, the home would be bland and cold. This is truly a testament to why the little things really do matter.  Also, these artworks weren't priceless portraits, rather they were minimalistic or simple. Things like dots placed in a rather haphazard fashion or simple floral prints can make effective pieces of artwork which can easily fill up an empty wall. In terms of decor, they normally consisted of small trinkets and plants. They quite often reflected and complimented the colour scheme and tied the entire room together.

Readers, what are your favourite pieces of art or decor pieces in your home?

aspirational homes | the bedroom

In the past week, I got the opportunity to look at some houses and their impeccable interior design. What can I say, they were definitely impressive and I couldn't resist the opportunity to take some photographs to share with everyone. Since I did take plenty of photos, I have decided to break them up into different categories so you wouldn't feel like you were reading a large book by the end of the post.

We spend at least one third of our life in our bedrooms, so it is important to create a space which is intimate yet comfortable. I find that the bedroom is one of the places in your home where you can add the personal touches in order to create an peaceful environment. What the recurring themes I saw in these particular bedrooms where the use of quite large and detailed headboards. These headboards ranged from graphic text to tall, quilted headboards to a parisian chic baroque-inspired headboard. They definitely add some interest to the ordinary bed. Also, bedding and other textiles were not in short supply. Having multiple pillows and cushions create a more comfortable space and it really does feel like you can just dive into bed. Blankets and throws were also a frequent addition to add the finishing touches.

I am so excited to share my photographs which I have taken in these aspirational homes and spaces over the next week or so. What was your favourite bedroom and what would your dream bedroom look like?

inspiration | the clothing rack

image from here

If you have space in your bedroom, why not get a clothing rack. Lately, it seems that everyone seems to have a clothing rack in their bedrooms. It is a great way to remind yourself to wear those items which frequently get lost in the back of wardrobe. Also, a clothing rack is also a great way to display seasonal pieces which you might wear quite often. Pieces which feature sequins, faux fur and leather would definitely find their way onto my clothing rack this fall season. What I have also been noticing are clothing racks which have been hung up and are attached to the ceiling. Although this may not be the most practical choice for my own bedroom, I would definitely look into having one in a future apartment. They are great for smaller spaces since it does not take up any floor space - something to keep in mind when you are decorating with limited space.

Just by looking at these images, it has certainly inspired me to rush out to my nearest Ikea and pick up this clothes rack. You can also read my previous decor inspiration post here focusing on the perfect workspace.

christian dior's first flagship store opens in sydney

inside christian dior's first flagship store in sydney
Sorry for the absence for the past week and a half, life has certainly been hectic. Today, Christian Dior opened its doors to its first flagship store in Sydney. I certainly do have a passion for interior design and I was not surprised that Dior has brought a French influence into its decor. A classic neutral palette, accented walls and silk carpet - incredibly reminiscent of the Parisian luxury strip and their apartments. This impressive, multi-level store would definitely have one of the best interiors, the other being Burberry on George St.
classic parisian decor and design
As well as bringing a Peter Marino designed store onto the corner of Castlereagh and King streets, Dior also boasts a collection of leather goods, ready-to-wear, a shoe salon  and a wall of jewellery and timepieces from Dior's couture legacy. They are also offering the complete men's collection as well. Also exclusive to this Sydney flagship store are two limited edition pieces which includes the iconic Lady Dior in an unapologetic shade of pink and a satin dress adorned with roses.

For those living for visiting Sydney, perhaps take a small trip to the luxury strip of Paris (although it is appointment only) and admire the impeccably designed surroundings. Are there any anticipated store openings where you live and what are your favourite store interiors?

inspiration | the workspace

images (clockwise) from here, here, here and here
In this coming year, I have decided to revamp my workspace. Since I am due to start  university this year, I thought there was no better way to start the academic year afresh with a workspace which would allow me to work hours on end without being bored and uninspired. Currently, my workspace is a mess. It is placed into a corner devoid of any natural light. My desk and chair has certainly seen better days and there definitely needs to be a change of scenery.

I am definitely picky with decor, everything has to be just right. I want it to be especially inviting so it can provide me that extra motivation just work to for that extra hour. I don't also want it to be too overly feminine but still add some feminine details to add a personal touch. Also, the workspace has to be practical. What is the point of having such a workspace where you have decorated it to the point where it is a place I cannot work in? I have picked several details which have stood out to me and I hope to incorporate these over the coming months.

details: clear x chrome
Lately, I have been drawn to clear and chrome details. The smallest details such as a perspex chair, a glass tabletop or chrome finish legs can completely change a classic piece of furniture. I have been looking into a classic Phillipe Starck Victoria Ghost Chair. However, to be able to acquire a genuine Phillipe Starck piece in Australia can be quite expensive and rather impossible. It would be more than likely that I will opt for a replica instead, for a fraction of the price.

simple desk + interesting chair = chic workspace
What I have found after browsing through thousands of pictures of workspaces is that they tend to have rather clean and simple desks paired with rather interesting chairs. these statement chairs can be rather be seen as a piece of art. It adds intrigue to an otherwise ordinary combination of the desk and chair.

details: a bouquet of fresh flowers
There is nothing like a fresh bouquet of fresh flowers. They can instantly add a touch of femininity to any workspace. Although they are a luxury and an expensive habit to maintain, it is nice once in a while to be greeted with some white tulips or some peonies. It brightens the workspace and helps to create a rather inviting and inspiring atmosphere, perfect for hours of work.

Although this workspace of mine will be built piece by piece, I hope to a space which is practical yet inspiring. What would you change about your workspace?
