ASOS petite shirt

 On the heels of the 'Building the Basic Wardrobe' series, I have started looking into more basic pieces for my wardrobe rather than cheap thrills (also known as that ten dollar that you have never worn). This classic button down top has a tailored fit and will serve me well in the years to come. It is a cotton blend shirt with a three-quarter sleeve. Although I am five foot and three-and-a-half inches, I thought I would still be able to fit into the petite section at ASOS. For those who don't know, the ASOS petite range is made for those 5'3" and under. Despite this, this shirt fit me well. You can purchase this exact shirt here.

I apologise for the week-long hiatus from my blog. Life has certainly gotten busy for the past week. My four month break is soon going to end and I am going to be starting my first semester as a communications student (and I'm a nervous wreck). Enough about my woes of beginning university, this post we are continuing the series of how to build the basic wardrobe. In this instalment, we are discussing shoes! We hear it time and time again: "Make sure you have the basics in your wardrobe". Yet, there are still many of us (includig myself) that still haven't mastered the quintessential basic wardrobe. It is a collection of the most versatile pieces for every occasion. It is definitely worth the investment for high quality basics that fit well. In the coming weeks, I'll be doing a series of posts which could help you (and most definitely myself) to build a wardrobe of basics that not only consist of quality pieces but also increase the longevity of your wardrobe. Personally, I lean towards a rather neutral palette of white, greys, black, various shades of neutrals and navy. These colours tends to be seasonless and can be easily be paired with anything. This time around, we are focusing on tops and basic outerwear. More after the jump.

Forever 21 Top, Forever 21 Leather Panel Trousers, Casio Watch, Hot Options for Target Shoes and Rimmel London in Apricot Punch on the nails

Last week I had to attend Presentation Day (aka award ceremony) at school. It was nice to see several people I haven't seen for weeks and collect my award. For this, I wanted to look put together but still casual at the same time since it was held during the day. I have always loved classic silhouettes but adding a twist to them to give it a modern edge. The trousers were a slim fit and had leather panelling which gave the classic trouser a modern edge, but still gave it a classic look. I also created a cuff with the trousers to create a casual-cool look. I also went quite minimal by finsihing the outfit with a messy bun, a gold sports-lixe watch by Casio and my favourite pair of shoes. I also broke up the monochromatic palette with some bright summer nail polish.
